The Men of Note-Truth is Marching On

Since 2000, I have been blessed to be a part of three gospel groups; The Kings Men, which was the Men's ensemble for the First Baptist Church of West Monroe, LA., The King's Men, a Southern Gospel group which, at first, included myself, John Miller (bass), Bill Hutchinson (Baritone), and Randy Waggoner (1st Tenor); and now I am singing with the Southern Gospel Quartet in my current church, the West Broadway Baptist church, which includes myself, Bill Southerland (Bass), Brent Whitten, our Baritone and our church's Worship Minister, and Marvin Mattingly, our 1st Tenor.

A year or so after The Men of Note started, we went to Cedar Crest Baptist Church in West Monroe for a concert, and recorded it, mostly as a learning experience; we wanted to see how we sounded to an audience so we could make improvements.  We recorded our rehearsal just before the concert.  Those songs are listed just below here on the left.

It was only a short time later that our bass, John Miller pass away suddenly.  It was a great loss to our group; John was the inspiration for starting our group, and loved singing with us, as we loved singing with him.  We decided that we would proceed as a trio, and were together for nearly three years.  Just before the group disbanded (Randy, our 1st Tenor was offered a spot wit a well established gospel group), we recorded 12 songs which we had envisioned selling some CDs of at our concerts.  That never happened, but I loved the results of the recordings.  We had commissioned a lady to modify the tracts so that we could sell them without paying royalties.  We all were very proud of the results, so I wanted to share them with whomever would want to listen.  I remember we wished that whomever listened to those songs would feel the love and encouragement that they delivered..
